  Discounted Options
1 Roof Top. Michael Carlisle Pharmacy Main Entrance (Plant Room), off Osborne Road.
NGR: E: 433509 / N: 385078 MAP

There is currently existing radio equipment on the plant room of this building, the nature and location of which means that there is no further space available to place Vodafones equipment in this location.

2 Roof Top. Michael Carlisle Main Entrance (pre-fabricated rooftop), off Osborne Road.
NGR: E: 433509 / N: 385078 MAP

At the other end of the building there is another lower level plant room. Due to the design and pre-fabricated nature of this plant room it is not possible to carryout an installation upon it as there is not enough solid structure to pole mount the antennas to.

3 Streetworks outside NHS Nether Edge Hospital, Michael Carlisle building, Osborne Road.
NGR: E: 433528 / N: 385099 MAP

Vodafone investigated the possibility of placing a streetworks pole on the pavement outside the Hospital, however due to the extent of existing underground services, in particular gasworks, it was not possible to place an installation here. In addition due to the large mature trees here, coverage provided from a street works mast in this location would have been severely restricted.

4 Rooftop installation at Gliders VW Garage, Psalter Lane & Eccleshall Lane.
NGR E: 432901 / N: 384854 MAP

The land here drops in height and because of this an installation upon this rooftop would not have provided the same level of coverage as Vodafone’s existing installation on the higher ground. There was also not enough ground based space for a new mast to be erected. Due to these restrictions the option was discounted.

5 Roof Top: Banner Cross Methodist Church, Ecclesall Road South.
NGR E: 432804 / N: 384917 MAP

The Church building across the road from the VW Garage was also considered, however due to the topography of the land here a Vodafone site in this location would have been too low and provide little or no coverage to the search area. Due to this the option was not considered further.

6 Streetworks on the junction of Psalter Lane & Cowlishaw Road.
NGR E: 433503 / N: 385423 MAP

This is a large area of grassed verge and pavement area situated on a crossroads of Psalter Lane and Cowlishaw Road. There are a number of existing items of street furniture within this area of pavement and it was felt that an installation on this busy road junction would further clutter and possibly compromise visibility splays for motorists and pedestrians. Due to this Highways issue an option here was discounted.

7 Roof Top, Sycamore Court Apartments, Chelsea Road.
NGR: E: 433136 / N: 385149 MAP

These residential flats are a new development. Vodafone considered the possibility of locating equipment upon the rooftop however the rooftop is in use as living space for the apartments and as such it was not possible to place equipment on the roof.

8 Streetworks style installation within the car park of Sycamore Court Apartments, Chelsea Road
NGR E: 433131 / N: 385121 MAP

All space in the car park has been designated for the residential parking of the owners of the flats, therefore there is no available space that could be used to locate a freestanding mast.

9 Streetworks Installation, Junction off Chelsea Road and Cavendish Road
NGR E: 433220 / N: 384984 MAP

Vodafone considered an installation within the verge of this pavement however due to the extent of the underground services, particularly gasworks, it was not possible. Also due to the large mature trees, coverage to the search area from an installation in this location would have been severely restricted.

10 Roof Top. Merlin Theatre, Meadow Bank Road.
NGR E: 434026 / N: 385126MAP

Whilst the buildings here are of suitable height to accommodate an installation, the buildings and the land are located within a hollow. The topography of the land is so low lying that neither a rooftop installation or a new ground based mast would provide acceptable coverage to the area.

11 Roof Top. Union Public House, Union Road
NGR E: 433835 / N: 385042 MAP

Vodafone considered utilising the gable end of the Union Public House with the view to pole mounting the antennas. However the height gained from an installation on the building was not adequate and with the level of equipment required it was also not possible due to the limited roof space available.

12 Roof Top: ‘The Psalter’ Barracuda Pub, Psalter Road
NGR E: 433271 / N: 385451 MAP

Due to the size and nature of the rooftop at the Psalter Vodafone were unable to produce a suitable design for a rooftop installation. The loft space of the building is also in use for accommodation limiting the availability of space for Vodafones equipment. Therefore, this building was not a suitable option with which to progress.

13 Roof Top; Residential Apartments, Edgebrook Road
NGR E: 433876 / N: 384803 MAP

A rooftop installation on the two-storey, flat-roofed apartments did not offer sufficient height to give the level of replacement coverage required in the area once the existing installation at the University has been removed.

14 Roof Top. Brincliffe House, Ecclesall Road.
NGR E: 432907 / N: 385338 MAP

Whilst this building is of substantial height, it is located at a very low elevation compared to the proposal site. The building has been constructed at the base of the cliff and is lower then Psalter Lane itself. In addition the owners of the building are currently unwilling to allow an installation upon the rooftop.

15 Roof Top, NHS Alexandra Day Unit, Lyndhurst Road
NGR E: 433729 / N: 384940 MAP

Vodafone considered this building and the possibility of locating telecommunications equipment upon it. There were two reasons why the building was discounted. The first is that the building is a grade II listed building and therefore subject to more restrictive planning policy than other alternative proposals including the preferred option. The second reason for discounting the building is due to its size. The distance that would exist between the antennas and the ground based equipment that makes them work would have been too great and this would have meant the installation would not have been effective as the longer the feeders are from the antennas, the less efficiently they operate.

16 Roof Top. Sheffield Homes, Union Road
NGR E: 433800 / N: 385066 MAP

The site provider was contacted in relation to an installation on or in the grounds, but they declined to enter into any agreements.

17 Roof Top. Salvation Army Centre, Psalter Lane.
NGR: E: 434012 / N: 385691 MAP

Due to the single storey design of this building and the surrounding, large, mature trees, a site here would not provide adequate coverage to the whole area currently being served by the existing site that is to be removed.

18 Roof Top installation St Andrew's Psalter Lane Methodist Church, Psalter Lane.
NGR: E: 433897 / N: 385554 MAP

The church, grounds and walls are all Grade II Listed and therefore is subject to stricter planning policies than non listed premises. Whilst it is possible to sensitively site telecommunications on listed buildings, it was felt that in this instance the proposal at Henry Hall, whilst not being listed also offers a better design solution. It was felt that the preferred option was the better option with which to progress for this reason.

19 Existing Streetworks installation T-Mobile 55101, Psalter Lane.
NGR: E: 432912 / N: 385181 MAP

This existing mast is a slimline 10m streetworks installation located within the grassed verge of the highway pavement. It is not possible to site share such installations as the mast does not have the structural capacity to support the additional antenna. Also due to the height of the mast we would not be able to locate our antenna at a suitable height on the mast to provide any coverage to the search area even if it were possible to share such installations. Due to this the option was discounted.

20 St. William’s of York R.C Church, Ecclesall Road
NGR E: 432857 / N: 385318 MAP

An installation here will not provide coverage to the search area due to the large drop in elevation from the current proposed site.

21 Rooftop development on St. John Ambulance, Sheffield Area H.Q. 131 Psalter Lane.
NGR E: 433316 / N: 385417 MAP

The building is Grade II listed and therefore subject to stricter planning regulations than those building which are not listed. Whilst it is possible to sensitively site telecommunications on listed buildings, it was felt that in this instance the proposal at Henry Hall, whilst not being listed also offers a better design solution. It was felt that the preferred option was the better option with which to progress for this reason. Also the location of the preferred option will provide better coverage to the search area once the current equipment is removed.

22 Rooftop installation or Greenfield mast upon Baldwins Omega Ltd, off Psalter Lane
(Rooftop) NGR: E: 433000 / N: 385127 MAP,
(Greenfield) NGR: E: 433022 / N: 385041 MAP

Both of these options would have provided good replacement coverage to the search area. The owners of Baldwins Omega were contacted however they declined the offer of hosting a telecommunications installation upon their property at this moment in time and therefore it was not possible to progress this as a viable replacement site.
